On any given night in Thanalan, one might look to the Ishino Distillery for a small taste of the Far East. A night of relaxing atmosphere, lovely company, and the finest sake of one of Othard's premiere mercantile families - the Ishino clan - is easily promised to its guests.Aoi Ishino stands at the front of the house most nights, only recently elevated to the head of his clan - yet he still operates here, in Thanalan, first and foremost. Much as it might be curious, the young lord's lips are almost permanently twisted into a smile. Surrounded by loyal employees and friends all the same, it would be thought that the lord Ishino's happiness was at its apex when with his people....Only to be lifted yet further, yet higher, when he is joined by the Madame of the house, Chigusa Yayoi: although the lord Ishino merely calls her his "Yayoi-sama". A trail of smoke often follows behind Chigusa, her favor coveted by both Aoi and those surrounding them. It is said by frequent visitors to the distillery, oft in a whisper, that in the time she has finished taking a drag from her pipe - the Madame has already decided your use to her. An ephemeral presence within the Distillery, yet one that carries such peerless importance.

The success of the Distillery is twofold: the Lord's business acumen, and the Madame's influence over the star she graces. However, this does not end at the Distillery itself. Responsible for helping to sustain and protect this venture is the Meishuya, a family that is headed by both Chigusa and Aoi. To know the name of their partnership means they have allowed you to know - such is the way they operate with nuance and decorum.Acting in the shadows, carefully pulling at the strings they need to, is only a fraction of what they do within the underworld.

Aoi Ishino, the Ishino dynasty's youngest son, was also its sudden usurper. To form the Meishuya, he has joined the strength of his family with Chigusa - his beloved Yayoi-sama - and her illustrious family. By all accounts, one should regard him as a forceful, perhaps even violent individual.But instead, the Lord Ishino is best known as a liaison between his people and their dreams - leaning on the strength of his family when needed while he leverages his position as head of a mercantile family.Often, the lord Ishino relies on the Meishuya's designated lieutenants to assist him in keeping the peace - both internally and externally.It is rumored that Aoi himself is leading the charge to memorialize the Meishuya as a "better" Yakuza. Worse yet, that he has foregone some traditions. The taking of fingers was always so archaic, after all. Those who are loyal to him are promised his utmost investment. A family in name and in action, the Meishuya disregard ceremony with the full intention of shaping that underworld it is an inhabitant of....But to what end will Aoi dirty his own hands, to alter such an unmoving thing?

Chigusa Yayoi is an enigmatic figure. What is known of the woman is what she purports to be; that is, a Hingashi entrepreneur, a traveler of the Star and a scholar of the esoteric. Whatever else beyond this is rumor and hearsay. The nature of the tales themselves hardly bother Chigusa – and, perhaps she may even cultivate them, to sustain that air of mystery that surrounds her. Contradictory stories and information flow freely, and whenever asked, she may smile, nod or elude. It makes little difference to her. What truly matters is the here and now.
Those who have earned her favor are preened over, as a bird may do for its young - so long as they act in utter accordance with her wants. To be of use to Yayoi-sama is a boon, and her service is not without its compensation - she is a powerful ally to have, and it is why the Lord Ishino covets her so.She seeks a quieter, more careful approach to her duties. As with any woman of business, she may delegate to those that she trusts for several tasks.While her stakes are not comprised of mere territory and coin, they are no less important - many of which drive men mad, and homes to ruin. Peculiarities as they stand are subject to the Madame's approval and acquisition....And one who would aim to get in the way of that, it is said, would not know their folly until it is already past the point of return.
